Visiting New Braunfels, TX

My husband and I had such a wonderful weekend getaway to New Braunfels, TX! Luckily for us, it was only a quick trip from Boerne, and we took the back roads all the way, the "scenic route"!

Although we only spent our weekend here, I could easily have stayed for a whole week! There was just so much to do! We will definitely be heading back to experience all that Gruene and New Braunfels has to offer.

I was hosted for this visit, and I absolutely enjoyed every part of it. We had a fun filled weekend with lots of activities that I've never experienced here before, even though I've visited the area several times. Here's how our weekend went:

Day 1

We checked in to our hotel, the Gruene River Inn, and it was so homey and cozy! We were greeted by super sweet staff and had no issues with parking. Each of the rooms has a gorgeous view of the river, and you even get your own private river access by staying at the hotel, so I highly recommend! One of the best parts about staying here was that we were always SO close to everything we were doing. The location is perfect.

You can add a daily continental breakfast to your stay, as well. We didn't partake in this, but I did see it and it looked yummy! There is a large gathering room with TV's that you can catch the game, hang out, and connect with other guests. The rooms are stocked with everything that you need. You just need to bring yourself!

After checking in, we headed to the Gruene River Grill for dinner. We had a great experience, we were seated with a beautiful view of the river, and the weather was perfect towards sun sunset! We started our dinner with chips & queso and a cup of the jalepeno crawfish chowder. Both were delicious and 100% worth it. I would also highly recommend their key lime pie!!! The whole menu sounds wonderful, so we will definitely be returning to test out more entrees!!

We enjoyed touring through Gruene afterwards, and stopped by to watch several live musicians play at various outdoor bars. We called it a night pretty early (because we had an early morning the next day) and we slept very comfortably at our hotel.

Day 2

We got an early start to this morning, and we headed to the Gruene 5/10k! My husband and I had never done this before, and it was a good experience! Neither of us are runners, so we jogged and ran, but it was good to get some exercise and explore the city a little bit.

From here, we changed and headed into town to stop by 2tarts! We loved having a sweet treat for breakfast and classic beverages.

The next stop was probably my favorite!! We had a wine tasting at the Grapevine and holy moly... I am telling as many people as I can about the red blend!!!! I will always keep this fully in stock at my house, because it's just that good! I have found my new favorite for sure. What I love about this place is that it is right in the heart of Gruene, and there is so much to do! You can sit outside and enjoy some live music, you can shop around inside for so many cute goodies for the wine lover, and you can sip on delicious, local Texas wine.

From here, we took a stroll through the beautiful town of Gruene. It's filled with lots of fun shops and perfect for family fun. We headed to the Gristmill for our lunch, and boy was it yummy! I had the pasta poblano salad, and truly I cannot wait to go back to have it again!! It's fresh and full of flavor. I also was a huge fan of the Hill Country Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. We had the best little spot on the outdoor patio, shaded and with a great view of the hill country.

The Guadelupe Brewing company was our next stop for the day. They have a super insta-worthy neon Texas sign on the wall, and lots of tables (inside and out) to lounge at. Although I am not a beer drinker, my husband really enjoyed it for the two of us. Luckily there were several drinks that were not beer that I could enjoy! I had a Paloma, while my husband created a flight of various beers to have. I will say there were tons of beers that I'd never heard of before. There was peanut butter, a german chocolate stout, s'mores stouts, coconut, and more! I definitely think it would be fun to surprise your husband with a trip here if you're going to be in town! They are a short drive from downtown, and worth it! There's definitely a good reason why they have won first in so many craft beer competitions across the country!! But, don't take my word for it, go taste it yourself!!

We enjoyed exploring the river with our river access once more at the hotel and got fixed up and ready for dinner. The Alpine Haus was our next stop and this was such authentic German food. My husband lived in Germany for several years, and he said it was very "spot on". My personal favorite item on the menu was for sure the potato dumplings....I've never ate something quicker. You have to try them for yourself!! It's offered as a side for most dishes! You won't regret it.

Day 3

This was check-out day, but we still had a few things on the agenda. First up was breakfast at Buttermilk Cafe. One thing I would recommend if you plan on going there is to get there EARLY. We had no problem, but I saw the line get longer and longer within just fifteen minutes after our arrival. (Not sure if you can make a reservation, but that would be great too!) They served us some delicious sweet coffee bread prior to eating. I could have easily ate another basket of them, haha! After we ate, we had one last stop to make for our trip.

We ended our visit with a private yoga session at Laurel Grace Yoga. Greg was our instructor, and I kid you not, I would truly make the drive over here again and again to visit him. The studio is perfect--so clean, beautifully decorated, and a peaceful serene environment. There is space to change and store your belongings, and plenty of goodies to shop through.

The session went SO well. Greg asked us about our concerns and goals for the session, and he really implemented them into our practice. I left there feeling two inches taller, and I wish every morning could start that way!!! You absolutely have to try a class here, it was fantastic.

On our drive home, we were talking about what our favorite parts of the weekend were. We had such a great time everywhere we went, and I definitely will revisit a few of these places soon. The best drink by far that I had was the sweet red blend from The Grapevine (OMG!) and we both agreed that our lunch at the Gristmill was our favorite. Each of the places we visited had such charm and a variety of options for us. I can definitely see New Braunfels as a place to spend more than a weekend, you could easily spend a whole week here and not run out of things to do!

I had seen several bachelorette groups here throughout the weekend, and I can tell why! With all the live music at night, cute boutiques and restaurants, this would be so ideal! Whether you are bringing your friends, family, or coming alone- there is something for everyone here. I highly recommend booking your next mini-vacation to New Braunfels and exploring these highlights! Let me know if you visit somewhere else here that you think I should try next!!!
